A new common room is being built at the Heath Park campus for all healthcare students.
Due to open this October, the new common room has been designed specifically for students as a ‘social space’.
Following a 2011 Heath Park survey conducted by the former Healthcare Integration Officer, Sarah Halpin, hundreds of students expressed the need for a place to socialise. Furthermore, following the closure of the refectory in Ty Dewi Sant, students said there was a lack of seating at the Heath Park Campus. Students were also struggling to find spaces to eat any home-prepared food, due to new constraints around the hospital.
With this in mind, Hannah Pask, Heath Park Campus Officer, has said that the common room is being built “as a place to relax and eat food prepared at home”, as well as easing the volume of students in other busy social areas on campus.
The new common room will be located on the ground floor of the Neuadd Meirionnydd building, next to the IV Lounge. The design is said to be very modern, with a similar feel to the Cochrane building, but with a social aspect to it.
It is hoped that the space will also be used by societies for committee meetings and socials.
