Model United Nations Society is one of the up and coming societies in Cardiff University. Already a silver tier society with over 90+ members, Cardiff’s MUN group will be going the extra distance in February by hosting Wales’ biggest, and first ever, MUN conference. We are extremely pleased to hold this auspicious occasion on the weekend of St David’s Day in Cardiff and showcase the international spirit that flourishes in Wales. The conference’s theme of ‘Unity in Diversity’ aims to capture this.
Model United Nations (MUN) is a platform for young people to simulate the proceedings of the United Nations committees with an eye towards achieving resolutions which combat some of the international community’s biggest global issues. It demands all members to work on their public speaking, social and diplomatic abilities. With anyone able to partake, MUN is the best opportunity to work on skills which employers are looking for, whilst having a bit of fun while you’re at it.
The conference doesn’t simply involve long debates however. This year UNA Wales, Welsh Centre of Internal Affairs, PwC (UK), Cardiff University, Cardiff Student’s Union and Cardiff Guild of Societies proudly sponsor the conference. UNA Wales has sponsored the opening ceremony at the Temple of Peace in Cardiff on Friday 28th February 2014. Moreover, the closing ceremony shall take place in the National Assembly of Wales on 2nd March 2014 at the Cardiff Bay. These two lavish locations are accompanied by a three course red carpet meal and two Saint David’s Day nights out in the heart of Cardiff.
The key to a successful conference is a diverse Secretariat. Society founder and current President Fozan Ghalib has been the vanguard of the Conference and has been the key figure in establishing this year’s secretariat team. Logistics is being headed by Chris Lally and Krishna Hemaraj, PR and Media by Nada Ihab and George Kyrke Smith and socials and events will be overseen by Kaitlyn Rabbitt, Vaishnavi Sayal and Surabhi Bhandari. The Secretary General and the conference patron will be Fozan Ghalib, while Chris Boudin will be the Deputy Secretary General. Mohanvir Singh currently leading the sponsorship team as Under-Secretary General Communication with Daniyal Khan and Haris Zia as the USG Finance officers. With such a diverse and talented group we’re guaranteed to have one of the best conference’s Cardiff will ever see.
