On Friday the 9th of February, Xpress Radio took part in Welsh Music Day, a day created to celebrate all forms of Welsh Language music.

Ar Ddydd Gwener y 9fed o Chwefror cymerodd Xpress Radio rhan mewn dydd arbennig iawn, Dydd Miwsig Cymru. Creuwyd y diwrnod i ddathlu bob math o gerddoriaeth Cymraeg.

Welsh Music Day has quickly grown to be a much-anticipated date in Xpress Radio’s calendar, as well as the rest of Wales. Xpress Radio first celebrated Welsh Language Music Day in 2017, in which a special two hour edition of Y Ddau Fwydryn was broadcast. This year, Xpress Radio upped the ante and usual broadcasting was suspended forv Welsh language music to be played on the log for a 24-hour period. Three specialist Welsh language shows were also broadcast from 6pm to 12am.

Mae Dydd Miwsig Cymru wedi tyfu yn sydyn i fod yn ddiwrnod pwysig iawn yng nghalendr Xpress Radio, yn ogystal â gweddill Cymru. Dathlodd Xpress Radio Dydd Miwsig Cymru am y tro cyntaf yn 2017, lle’r oedd sioe fersiwn dwy awr arbennig o’r unig sioe Gymraeg ar yr orsaf bryd hynny, Y Ddau Fwydryn. Eleni, roedd cynnydd aruthrol yn raddfa’r dathliadau. Cafodd darlledu arferol ei ohirio a chafodd cerddoriaeth Cymraeg ei chwarae am 24 awr. Roedd hefyd tair sioe arbennig i ddathlu’r diwrnod a chafodd eu darlledu rhwng 6yh tan 12yb.

The first show from 6-8pm was O Wleidyddiaeth i Gerddoriaeth by the Gwylio Gwleidyddiaeth showteam. The show was typically imbued with political and protest songs but gradually evolved into a feast of Welsh pop music we all know and love. The second show which broadcast from 8-10pm was a special edition of Sioe Glesni a Sara, in which both girls played their usual funky music in an attempt to get listeners in the Friday night mood. The final show to close Welsh Music Day was Cool Cymru gyda Rob ac Aled, which broadcast between 10pm-12:30am. Rob took the audience and an unenlightened Aled for a trip through the archive, to celebrate the progression from the Cool Cymru era, an era in which Welsh bands were thriving outside Wales, to the present day. An interview with new band Miskin which was aired on the show, with two members in Cardiff University, was indicative of the significance and permeation of Welsh language music throughout the university. Bring on 2019!

Y sioe gyntaf a oedd ymlaen rhwng 6-8yh oedd O Wleidyddiaeth i Gerddoriaeth gan dîm Gwylio Gwleidyddiaeth. Roedd y sioe llawn caneuon gwleidyddol a phrotest, ond fel mae’r teitl yn honni, trawsfudodd y gerddoriaeth tuag at alawon pop melys. Yr ail sioe oedd fersiwn arbennig o Sioe Glesni a Sara, lle chwaraewyd y caneuon ffynci arferol mewn ymgais i gael y gynulleidfa yn barod i fynd allan. Y sioe a glowyd y diwrnod oedd Cool Cymru gyda Rob ac Aled, lle cymerodd Rob y gynulleidfa yn ogystal ag Aled a oedd yn anoleuedig drwy’r archif cerddorol. Aethant o’r cyfnod Cool Cymru, lle’r oedd bandiau Cymraeg yn ffynnu tu allan i Gymru tuag at y diwrnod presennol. Roedd cyfweliad yn ystod y rhaglen gyda’r ddau aelod o’r band Miskin sydd yn mynychu Prifysgol Caerdydd yn ddangosol fod cerddoriaeth Cymraeg yn treiddio’n ddwfn drwy’r brifysgol. Awê 2019!
