The \u00d4\u00c7\u00ffB-Town’ scene that brazenly emerged out of the heart of the midlands in 2013 gave the indie world somewhat of a trio of bands. They were characterised by their psychedelic sound, uncontrived persona and imperfections when it came to music-making. Yet, if B-Town’s poster bands, Peace and Swim Deep that is, were the ones banging the drum for Birmingham’s supposedly latent music scene, the latter of the trio were quietly working away on their own thing, producing a couple of EP’s, a debut album and building up their name through relentless touring.<\/p>\n
Despite being lumped in this group of bands and musicians that hail from the Digbeth area of Birmingham, Jaws have always been far more aligned to those mid-90s Madchester vibes. This doesn’t appear to have been lost in the years following the release of their first album if the new singles from the upcoming record, \u00d4\u00c7\u00ffSimplicity’, are anything to go by.<\/p>\n
\u00d4\u00c7\u00ffWork it Out’ offers up a strong chorus and gives off a summery and synthy feel, very reminiscent of the Milkshake EP. Stand out single \u00d4\u00c7\u00ffJust a Boy’ maintains those wavy, psychedelic undertones that Jaws have become known for but raises the volume. It’s an amalgamation of sorts, somewhere between the likes of Nirvana, The Stones Roses and The Happy Mondays.<\/p>\n
The bands 2014 debut, \u00d4\u00c7\u00ffBe Slowly’ was more of an ode to its forbears than anything close to ground-breaking but there was certainly potential for improvement. Although the new record hints toward originality and development from Jaws.<\/p>\n
