Women empowerment done right – that\u2019s the best way to describe WOLA Cardiff<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WOLA is an uplifting and empowering society, who are dedicated to inspire women to make an impact on society, and work together to share knowledge and skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WOLA Cardiff was only introduced to Cardiff earlier this year, and has quickly become an enriching space for Afrikan women to come and make meaningful connections, network and support one another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The society organises leadership workshops, social events and educational resources, focusing on generating conversations surrounding communication and confidence, Black history awareness and even ways to tackle imposter syndrome, to give women the tools in order to grow and develop their skills within leadership and project management roles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I recently attended one of their biggest events of the year which was a fun \u201cSip & Paint\u201d night hosted in a beautifully decorated space, where everyone was equipped with snacks, drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) and painting supplies. Walking in, you could tell the event was hosted by women, by the sheer amount of thought and effort put into the event and the venue itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s important to note that the event was a fundraiser, where all contributions raised were dedicated to supporting Uganda\u2019s remaining gender-based violence (GBV) shelters, which is vital as many of these shelters have been closing down due to funding cuts. This exemplifies the very nature of WOLA – doing their part to support women in need and raise awareness on important causes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the event, I spoke to the Vice President of WOLA Cardiff, who told me that though WOLA\u2019s main purpose is to support Afrikan women to thrive and amplify their voices, they are open to all women as ultimately, women\u2019s movements must support and uplift all women, regardless of race, religions and ethnicity. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The society brings together a wonderful and supportive group of women, who really care about contributing to the wellbeing of others and doing their part to ensure that the women who do join feel respected, celebrated and above all empowered. In my opinion, there isn\u2019t another society like this who spreads such positivity and light and generosity, which is so incredibly important as it fosters a space for a sisterhood to thrive.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

WOLA Cardiff have more events in the works, which will be happening in the new year, and are looking to welcome more incredible women to join the society to spread their message wider within the university and Cardiff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
