Iconic English rock band, Echo & The Bunnymen, have just released their 13th album, Apples for Isaac<\/em> via BMG. This marks the groups\u2019 first collection of new material since Meteorites<\/em> in 2014.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Instrumentally, the album remains true to their classic union of soulful energy amongst the darkness of post-punk and psychedelic influences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The beginning track, Take Me By The Hand<\/em>, leads with a powerful, driving guitar hook instantly spiralling the listener into the album. Jumping back and forth between the opening guitar riff and the lively, dancey energy injected by McCulloch\u2019s vocals, this variation makes for an excellent leading track and certainly grabs the listener \u2018by the hand\u2019 into the world of Echo & The Bunnymen. Punchy sounds and dance-floor ready energy continues into Can\u2019t Be Sold<\/em>, before the album drifts into a more sensitive state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Brussels is Haunted<\/em> blends themes of post-war European collective memory and personal nostalgia. Formed in 1978, the band\u2019s gigs in Brussels would have been among their earlier international shows, marking this track as a fusion of their own remembrance of the city and the echoes of real history and political memory. This number certainly delivers a haunting soundscape and its sentimental reflection of the past feels like an ode to the band\u2019s earlier days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n An Unstoppable Force<\/em> takes on a similar thoughtful and emotional path in the latter half of the album. \u2018One of these days, I know I\u2019ll lose the will for the thrill of the chase\u2019 touches upon the difficulty of confronting our art and life\u2019s purpose.
