No one is exactly sure when the Ale and Cider Festival first started, but estimates suggest that it has been going for 10-15 years now, making it a long established part of the student calendar. What we know for sure is that last year it won Best Big Event of the year at the Societies Awards; this year we want to build on this success to make it an even better event. This year we have 50 different ales and ciders, a range of live music over two days, craft lager, and specialist fruit wines and meads. WeÔÇÖre not exactly the biggest society, or the most active, but this event in many ways represents what weÔÇÖre about and what we do, which is enjoy and appreciate Real Ale and Cider, as well as other traditional drinks like Mead and Fruit Wine.
The Real Ale and Cider Society could easily be seen as just a drinking society, but we donÔÇÖt want to give that impression, as we definitely focus on the flavour and quality of Ales and Ciders more than anything else! WeÔÇÖve held socials and events in a range of different places, from around Cardiff and Penarth, to Bristol and Trefforest. Brewery tours are also part of what we do, as are brewing nights, where we make ale and mead, as we want to help people to brew their own, and encourage homebrewing. Our socials are casual, and no obligation is necessary, so feel free to come along and join in!
The Real Ale and Cider Festival on the 20th-21st February is a chance for students to sample an extensive range of Real Ales and local Ciders from breweries and cider presses like Otley and Gwynt Y Ddraig, as well as more obscure ones, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere with great live music.
Entry Price is £2 (+£1 for the glass) and £10 for the drinks ticket bundle.
