Who do YOU want to run YOUR Students’ Union?

Exams are finally over. The spring term is just beginning, but don’t get into that ‘normal’ routine quite yet as voting season has begun. The big question is being asked this term; Who do you want to be running our Students Union?

Some of the positions that you can vote for include the full time officer roles such as, Students Union President and VP Education. Others you can vote for include the part time roles such as, Welsh Language Officer and Mature Students Officer. Voting begins in just 16 days and you can vote in one of two ways. Either online at the Cardiff Students Union Website, or at one of the many ballot stations across the campus.

Here on Xpress Radio we aim to ensure you have all the information you require to make your decision. As such we are offering all nominated candidates an interview, which will be online on the 19th February at 9am. We will also be broadcasting the two candidate question time events on the 13th and the 15th giving you all the information from the comfort of your living room!

Cardiff Central Decides

The 6 candidates for the main parties in Cardiff Central take part in a debate organised by Xpress Radio and our friends at CUTV. Jamie Williams chairs the debate, with analysis from Madhura Kanade, Amy Carter and Rob England.

Xpress wins Most Improved Student Station!

Xpress saw our recent efforts recognised by the Student Radio Association at last week’s ‘I Love Student Radio’ awards. Xpress fought off some tough competition to be given the award, ahead of Highly Commended stations Smoke Radio and Nerve Radio. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to attend the awards due to our coverage of the Welsh Varsity.

The award tops off what has been a monumental year for Xpress, with the station going on FM for the first time in several years, the launch of Xpress Sports Xtra for this year’s Varsity and the launch of Mixtape, Xpress’s fortnightly club night at Undertone, amongst many other achievements.

The Xpress management would like to thank everyone who has been involved this year and we’re looking forward to celebrating with you at the Media Awards on the 9th May and at the Xpress closedown party on the 9th June at Gwdihw.

There’s still several important broadcasts left this year, with Thursday’s Cardiff Central Decides offering students the chance to question their next potential MP in Y Plas from 6pm onwards. We’ll be providing extensive coverage of the summer’s festivals , including Bestival.

All of Xpress’s content from this year is available on our Mixcloud at:┬áhttps://www.mixcloud.com/xpressradio/

If you’d like to get involved in Xpress Radio next year, email stationmanager@xpressradio.co.uk. Broadcasting will resume properly in October, with full training provided.
