MenÔÇÖs lacrosse continue their outstanding form in play-off

Reading……………………………….3

Cardiff ………………………………..11

Last week, the menÔÇÖs lacrosse team played the first of two games against Reading in the play-off for the BUCS Premier League. Cardiff secured an impressive 11ÔÇô3 victory, despite playing away against tough competition.

In the first five minutes of play, Reading scored two goals due to CardiffÔÇÖs poor communication and wayward defence.

Due to a recent injury, captain Jack Ward was unable to play, but Cardiff were determined not to let this hold them back. The visitors tightened their defence after ReadingÔÇÖs initial goals and ended the first quarter 2ÔÇô1 down, courtesy of a skilful goal by Joakim Schuwer.

CardiffÔÇÖs players displayed much stronger lacrosse in the second quarter. They had a lot of possession in attacking areas, with their rapid ball movement in the midfield tiring out ReadingÔÇÖs defence.

Another two goals were scored by CardiffÔÇÖs Ondre Teluch, making the score 3ÔÇô2 at half time.

In the second half of the game, CardiffÔÇÖs attack excelled. Schuwer and Teluch scored twice more each, two fantastic goals were scored by Paul Chapman, before Charlie Quarry and Robert Bowen grabbed one each.

ReadingÔÇÖs advances were quickly shut down by CardiffÔÇÖs defence, allowing the opposition to score only one goal, and the away side became even stronger as the game developed. Schuwer was named MVP for his super goals and all-round contribution.

The teams will play again next week in Wales to determine who will be promoted to Premier League South next season.

The team also fought their way into the BUCS Trophy final recently with an 8ÔÇô3 away win at the University of London last week. Teluch was named MVP in this game for his consistently strong play in the face of tough opposition.

Cardiff will play several important games in the weeks to come, including the Trophy final against Sheffield Hallam on BUCS Big Wednesday, which will be held on March 26th.  Their much-anticipated Welsh Varsity game on April 9th is sure to provide a thrilling climax to the season, which has seen great success for the team.
