Ed’s note

Hello, everyone! Last week was a big week in the exciting world of university sport, as the BUCS Nationals took place in Sheffield.

The event was held over three days, with nearly 6,000 students from 130 universities competing in 11 different sports, which ranged from athletics and swimming to ten-pin bowling.

The Athletics Club did particularly well, taking three medals.  Commonwealth Games hopeful Hannah Thomas took gold in the 200m with a personal best.

Pole-vaulter Sally Peake, who has already qualified for the Commonwealth Games, also took gold in her event and was closely followed by fellow Cardiff student Lucy Stickland, who took bronze. The Cardiff team did fantastically to finish eighth, with the women’s team finishing in the top five.

Fencer Amy Radford, who is a member of the Great Britain senior squad, made the final of the womenÔÇÖs ├®p├®e event, taking home a silver medal to add to her collection and continuing to do her uni proud on the big stage.

Meanwhile, the Taekwon-do club absolutely smashed it as they won their competition with 41 points, compared with the 23 points of the second-placed team.

Congratulations must also go the men’s lacrosse side, who won their BUCS quarter-final match against Swansea – cue celebratory ‘Game Face’.

Looking ahead to this week, the time has finally arrived for AU’s Got Talent.┬á I have been given a glimpse of some of the performances that will be showcased on Wednesday and I can assure you that you will not be disappointed.

All are welcome to attend the event. The first act will be on at 7:30pm in Solus before The Lash begins, and, of course, I will be in attendance.
