MenÔÇÖs lacrosse victorious in Varsity pre-run

Cardiff ……………………………. ….7

Swansea……………………………… 1

Swansea visited Cardiff this week for an exciting game between the Varsity rivals.

Cardiff’s James Gibson scored two goals in the early minutes, closely followed by another from Ondre Teluch, making the score already 3-0 to Cardiff at the end of the first quarter. Excellent lacrosse from Gibson saw him score twice more for Cardiff before half time.

Both teams executed strong tackles and stick skills in a very hard-fought contest. Swansea’s attack fought back as the game reached 5-0 to the home team at half time.

The third quarter began with a confident face-off from Cardiff’s James Tilley, with each team having shots at goal. Teluch scored again for Cardiff, before Swansea eventually penetrated Cardiff’s solid defence, with their captain’s goal making it 6-1.

Neither team tired during the final quarter, with Swansea displaying firm defence, only letting in a majestic goal by Cardiff’s Silas Fuller in the final minutes.

The game ended in a 7-1 win for Cardiff, a great result for the home side in light of the imminent Varsity competition on April 9th.

Unbeaten this season, Cardiff’s latest victory added to their formidable reputation. This win against Swansea also qualified them for the semi-finals of the BUCS Trophy, where they will travel to the University of London looking to reach a third final in a row.

Cardiff have also finished top of the BUCS Western 1A League and will play Reading in home and away fixtures for the right to join the BUCS South Premier League next season.

Eagerly anticipating possible promotion, captain Jack Ward commented: “The consistently high standard of lacrosse proves Cardiff should be competing against the best teams in the country.”

Bradley Cooper, President of CULC, expressed his pride in the club’s developments.

He said: “The men’s team have been outstanding this season, and the ladies are competing in a very difficult league, determined not to lose face.”

For the first time in the club’s history, both men’s and women’s second teams have been entered into next season’s BUCS leagues.
