The word ÔÇÿelusiveÔÇÖ is often thrown about when discussing new, emerging bands, but in the case of Jungle, it couldnÔÇÖt be more appropriate. Despite revealing very little about themselves, the group have built up a large fanbase, including Radio 1ÔÇÖs Huw Stephens who called them, “One of the most intriguing and fresh sounding bands out there”.
Further recognition for Jungle came when they found themselves on the BBC Sound of 2014 list, after playing only their second live show. The bandÔÇÖs allure remains potent; their blend of slippery, tribal funk is enticing ears and drawing interest nationwide. Their debut singles ÔÇÿThe HeatÔÇÖ and ÔÇÿPlatoonÔÇÖ went viral online, while their latest offering, ÔÇÿBusy EarninÔÇÖ was one of Zane LoweÔÇÖs Hottest Records In The World.
The enigma of Jungle stretches only as far to tell us they comprise of T and J, friends who grew up as neighbours in West London, and plan to release an album later this year. Creating music organically, the band say they would ÔÇÿrather not work towards a deadlineÔÇÖ and instead ÔÇÿfocus on enjoying the creative processÔÇÖ: an approach that has clearly manifested itself in their dreamy, soulful sound.
Jungle start their UK tour at The Globe, Cardiff on Thursday 1st March. If the hype surrounding this band is anything to go by, catch them before they inevitably erupt and see them in an intimate setting while you still can.
