It’s quite the achievement to have created something for everyone.

Leeds-based scuzz-rage pop-rockers Pulled Apart By Horses have finally released their third studio album ‘Blood’. It’s been a long wait for fans since the glorious ‘Tough Love’ was released over two years ago but it’s been a wait worthwhile. With some stamping this as their best album to date, ‘Blood’ takes us down a more psychedelic path complete with reverb and groans big enough to make your spine tingle.

Singles ‘Hot Squash’ and ‘Lizard Baby’ remain strong contenders for best song on the album as they showcase Pulled Apart By Horses’ technical talent and imaginative take on what it is to be a modern rock band. The up-tempo ‘You Want It’ describes exactly how it makes you feel and will translate into a must have on live setlists when they tour. Tracks such as ‘Skull Noir’ and ‘Medium Rare’ showcase the groovier side of the quartet and allow you to see the growth the band have made from their earliest LP, while the brilliantly thrashy ‘Bag of Snakes’ is a reminder of what this band do best.

Yes, ‘Blood’ does see a more pop structure to the music that is usually all riffs and thrills but it seems to only enhance the style these boys are so good at creating and it makes for an album for all occasions. ‘Blood’ is for the secret mosher, the unlucky house cleaner, the office worker heading to work at 7am and the teacher heading home from a trying day at school. It’s for the dedicated fans as much as it is the new ones. For a band who are often an acquired taste, it’s quite the achievement to have created something for everyone. ‘Blood’ fits its era and its genre like a puzzle piece in a jigsaw and it’s this that makes it such a perfect album.
