Rivan Shukla speaks to Bloom Twins ahead of their support slot with Duran Duran at the Motorpoint on Monday 20th November.
Quench Music (QM). WeÔÇÖre looking forward to seeing you support Duran Duran at CardiffÔÇÖs Motorpoint Arena┬áon Monday. Will this be your first time in Cardiff? Do you have any expectations?
Bloom Twins (BT): Yes, It will be our first time. We are so excited. A lot of our friends said it’s a beautiful city we must see and that the Motorpoint is a mind-blowing place to perform in!
QM: Are you fans of Duran Duran personally?
BT: Yes we are. Our parents used to listen to ÔÇÿOrdinary worldÔÇÖ on repeat, but not only musically they are iconic for us. Duran Duran are the band that seamlessly unites fashion with music and deliver their image and new romantic sound with dark notes through beautiful and sometimes controversial for that time music videos – that’s everything we love and┬áis part of us.
QM: Who are your inspirations for your music? What sort of music did you listen to growing up?
BT: Our inspiration are Bob Dylan, Bob Marley and John Lennon, because their music has a message that everyone can relate to. We also used to listen and still listen to Radiohead, Massive attack, Portishead.
QM: As twins, does your taste in music differ? What are the sort of creative differences that occur?
BT: Not really. We are real twins in our taste in music. Well, what actually differs is the way we create music. Anya is the structure human. For her it is really important to have a structure, finished idea. But I, Sonia, just have a spark and idea, and I’m ok not to finish it and go straight to the next one.
QM: You describe your music genre as ÔÇ£dark popÔÇØ. Can you explain this further?┬á
BT: It is a mix of black and white, of romantic and dark. As we all have those sides in us, we decided to mix those two.
QM: You stood in solidarity with and dedicated a cover of Bob MarleyÔÇÖs Stand up to the Ukraine. Tell us about that.
BT: We did it to praise Ukrainians, who were staying on Maydan for their rights. It was hard for us to be in London, so we needed to share that even though our bodies were in London but our souls were in Ukraine.
