Festive Fashion: What To Wear This Holiday Season

Festive Fashion: What To Wear This Holiday Season

The holiday season is soon upon us, and with that comes the plethora of events; from Christmas dinners to course balls, there are so many outfits to plan. Any excuse to dress up immediately gets me going through Pinterest for an endless scroll of outfit inspiration. When it comes to holiday parties, there are some classic trends like velvet, emerald green or burgundy, knit dresses and my personal favourite, sparkles! Whether that be in jewellery, a dress or even makeup, I am a firm believer in sparkles always being incorporated into festive fashion.

When looking for upcoming trends, I often turn to social media and previous fashion runways, and this year, IÔÇÖve seen so much bow-related content with a lot of ÔÇÿSandy LiangÔÇÖ and ÔÇÿMiu MiuÔÇÖ inspiration. Dainty accessories and feminine hair embellishments are definitely on my radar for this holiday season. One of the reasons I love this trend so much is how easy it is to incorporate with some ribbon tied in my hair or on my purse; it can add a soft feminine touch. Many online retailers like ÔÇÿPrincess PollyÔÇÖ and ÔÇÿMotel RocksÔÇÖ have also begun incorporating this trend into their recent collections.

As party season approaches, I see so much inspiration in shop windows and on social media. Personally, I love a good mini dress and oversized jacket combination for a warm but still stylish look, especially when paired with a good chunky loafer or knee-high boots. Vinted and charity shops are my go-to for finding these winter wardrobe staples on a university student budget. These pieces last long and are often great items for fall-to-winter transitional outfits with the help of layering. Whether youÔÇÖre going for classic festive trends or trying to incorporate some new ones, building your wardrobe with timeless pieces you can always turn to is essential.

While we reminisce over this year’s summer phenomena, the lazy sunny days wearing linen sets and crochet tops combined with Barbie chic, it also means we are heading into the most exciting time of year for fashion; autumn. With the temperature dropping rapidly, autumn allows us to dust off our winter clothes and indulge in our comfy era. Winter fashion includes all things sleek and sophisticated, though not without the opportunity for a sparkly twist perfect for Christmas balls. And if you’ve already done some research on TikTok or Instagram, you know that this seasons trends are full of bold pieces, timeless classics, and a few quirky new colourways entering the fashion scene.┬á

The ultimate goal for this yearÔÇÖs autumn/winter fashion is comfy clothes. Obviously! Comfy clothes are essential and are already a staple in most peopleÔÇÖs wardrobes; especially in the “athleisure” trend. Elevated athleisure is going to be one of this winterÔÇÖs most wearable trends. This autumn, though, it’s time to take athleisure up a notch or two when it comes to glam. The goal? To stay feeling cosy and looking as chic as possible. Nostalgia is still a driving factor behind this seasons fashion trends, without any sign of that changing. Fashion trends from the ’80s are especially making a resurgence this season and you know what that means; we’ll see lots of bold colours and oversized pieces. If you need one last sign telling you to add to your collection of jumpers for sweater weather, this is it! Taking inspiration from many TV fashion icons such as Rachel from ÔÇÿFriendsÔÇÖ and her work-wear or Regina from ÔÇÿMean GirlsÔÇÖ in her off-the-shoulder tops, many fashion trends stem from these iconic characters and cave their way into our everyday lives. We see this fashion in almost every sphere, if you took some cues from the fashion inspiration at Taylor Swift’s Eras tour when considering autumn fashion, sparkly metallic and bold colours aren’t going away anytime soon. If you want all eyes on you sparkles and metallic colours are the way forward. Perfect for the upcoming Christmas parties!┬á

However, we cannot ignore the one dominating colour that has become the shade of the season: red. This seasonÔÇÖs runways were dominated by one colour: rich red, which popped up in practically every show. From cherry red nails to red leather jackets, we have seen this colour surge in popularity, which just embodies the season of Christmas and IÔÇÖm sure itÔÇÖll make its way into your wardrobe.

As the holidays are approaching (along with extremely cold weather) not only do we need to keep warm but we also want to be looking and feeling good. This holiday season, layering is a very important aspect of everyday outfits. TikTok seems to be the best place to look for inspiration of the latest fashion trends to keep you warm.

Neutral colours such as brown, beige, grey, white, cream and black are a big plus to any piece of clothing. As long as there is a statement piece like a coat to tie it all together you can avoid making the outfit too simple. For a daytime look ÔÇô according to the influencers of TikTok ÔÇô some great examples are knitted jumpers, long trench coats, leather jackets, fluffy tights with skirts, knee-high boots, and uggs paired with long fluffy socks. When it comes to Christmas events and work parties, the way to go is elegant and smart. Glitter dresses in shades of red and green with black stilettos will be popular this holiday season. Full suits in black or white are always timeless. Blazers paired with satin mini dresses is another outfit combination that will most definitely make an appearance this season.

With Christmas right around the corner, cherry red should make an appearance in your outfit; a deep warm red that goes with the theme of any Christmas party you are planning on attending. An elegant yet sexy colour perfect for the season, especially when paired with black. My favourite looks of the season this year are black leather trench coats paired with small cherry red handbags and white knitted jumpers with exposed collars paired with dark grey trousers, and short black boots.
