As the Christmas season approaches, Cardiff transforms into a magical hub of festive cheer. Whether you’re in the mood for a cozy hot chocolate or a festive cocktail under the twinkling lights, the city offers a range of delightful spots to relax after a day of shopping. Here’s your guide to Christmas drinks in Cardiff!
Of course, I’ll start with Winter Wonderland itself. Situated within the walls of Cardiff Castle, it boasts a huge variety of options to get the spirits started. With plenty of hot drinks stalls, get cosy, and warm up your hands on coffees and hot chocolates. There’s a wide selection – so if your favourite is pumpkin spice, gingerbread with whipped cream and marshmallows, they have it!
For those wanting to grab a *stronger* drink, you’re not lacking options either. Personally, I would suggest a Bailey’s hot chocolate. Served with whipped cream and a flake, it was the perfect way to warm up after skating on the ice. It may be pricier for students, but the festive atmosphere made it worthwhile.
The Sur La Piste Alpine Bar is a great place to warm up and grab a mulled wine, with a feel that makes you think you’re on the slopes and mulled cider as a festive spin on a pint, if that’s your thing. The Ice Bar, of course, is a focal place to mention for Christmas drinks. Notably more expensive, being £16 admission (including one shot and one drink). Ideal for special occasions or family-visits. Hosting impressive ice sculptures and serving drinks in ice glasses, it’s a one-of-a-kind experience in Cardiff. They do serve non-alcoholic options, and children are allowed to enter. But remember to book online in advance before!
Outside the walls of Winter Wonderland, there’s various permanent Cardiff city centre places that are unleashing the Christmas decorations and menus. Dirty Martini has an amazing Christmas drinks menu ranging in price, catering to all preferences. They also offer sharing cocktail trees, perfect for grabbing a group of friends… my favourite kind of Christmas tree! If in a group, I would head here. They offer a variety of bundle/package options, ideal for a festive party.
The Botanist and Flight Club also host specialist Christmas Drinks Menus and deserve a mention solely for their decorations. It truly transported us into Christmas scenery and magical vibes.
Students, don’t fret… our favourite Cathays pubs are getting festive too. The Woody, Flora, and The Taf are jumping on the December festivities. I personally will be spending evenings here leading up to the holidays.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas… and Cardiff is the place to be. Cheers to a joyful holiday season!
