Best Places for Valentines in Cardiff

Getting the date right on Valentine’s Day can be stressful, whether it’s to celebrate a longstanding relationship or to woo a situationship, the time, place and atmosphere can be crucial for making a memorable Valentines. A table for two is the staple hallmark of a Valentine’s date- after all, with all the love in the air, who has time to cook?

If a candlelit evening dinner is what you and your special someone are in need of this fourteenth of Feb, I would recommend Maison De Boeuf- a Parisian restaurant to bring the city of love to you this Valentines, minus the steep flight prices. This restaurant knows how to do Valentines, with candles and ambient lighting and a fixed menu to help fight those long periods of contemplating the menu, leaving you time and space to connect over some incredible heart warming French food.

If you’re looking for a lighter fix, you should consider trying some of Cardiff’s generous selection of local cafe’s. The Secret Garden cafe combines two dates in one, situated in Bute Park the walk to it allows great conversation with the stunning views of Cardiff’s greenery and wildlife. A chilled brunch spot for the day of love may be a simple but effective way to go, with the Secret Garden Cafe being one of my top spot recommendations.

Whether you plan on grabbing a coffee or a light bite to eat, spending Valentine’s day in this scenic location comes hand in hand with supporting a local cafe which not only provides great food but sources locally and works alongside Wildlife Trusts to ensure the beauty of Cardiff’s greenery is preserved for all the Valentine’s to come. Paradise Garden is another spot I would recommend, a cafe by day and a bar by night. This chilled music venue makes a perfect date whether it’s daytime or evening romance you’re searching for.

If evening drinks are more the vibe, try The Bootlegger- hidden away on Womanby street, the cosy upstairs of this bar provides a perfect date atmosphere with music to put you in the mood for Love, alongside cocktail masterclasses available to book if a hands on date is more your style. Speaking of hands on, not all dates have to be the blueprint food and drink vibe, so instead why not consider Golf Fang, this place blows your typical Jungle Rumble mini golf dates out the water with themed rooms (including a Jeremy Kyle photo opportunity and a slide) what more could you ask for?? It is a fun, immersive experience date with a bit of poorly played golf on the side, and with £6 student tickets this place is ideal for making the most of Valentine’s day as a student when that January loan drop isn’t quite stretching as far as you thought.

If you’re twiddling your thumbs and searching for the perfect place to take that special someone, I would definitely give these places a try this February as they won’t let you down!
