If you want the best student deals and recommendations on where to explore next in Cardiff, then I think downloading Ques should be at the top of your list.
Students use Ques as a single feed to discover local events, venues, and student-only discounts, rather than checking multiple apps or social media pages.
Speaking with Jeyden Thambirajah, founder of Ques, I now know why there is so much hype around this app:
What is Ques, and how did you come up with the name?
“Ques is an app for students, encouraging them to explore what Cardiff has to offer through a range of discounts and more. Ques actually came from a Latin word, which means to search or look for. Think of Ques as the app with everything you need in one place”.
How did you come up with your business?
“It stemmed from my own personal experiences. I was born in London and lived there for 14 years. For my GCSEs and A levels, I was in a boarding school in India, but I came back to the UK for university, thinking it would be easy to adjust to life in the UK again. There weren’t many sites that advertise what Cardiff has to offer. Yes, there are the main places, but the independent shops/venues need spotlighting. Sites like Fatsoma and Eventbrite are great for ticketing, but being able to showcase what Cardiff has to offer is why I came up with the app, Ques”.
“When we started the platform and did more research, similar conversations between both international and home students kept cropping up that there’s a gap in the market where we need to showcase the “hidden gems” of what Cardiff has to offer. Giving these places a spotlight and an equal playing field with more discounts for students is my aim. We started building from there and began showcasing the independent venues to support them, while getting our fellow students more discounts”.
What sets you apart from other apps and who would you say your competition is?
“While UniDays, Student Beans, or Eventbrite are our competitors, we are helping our students by integrating with the unions, not just franchises. We care about the independent shops, to give them an equal playing field. Even our pricing with these venues are great value for students. It’s for more venues to showcase their platforms and compete with franchises that have massive marketing budgets”.
Where do you see Ques in a year?
“The idea for us is to go to all of the university cities. We aim to refine Cardiff, using this model and making it the best as possible, and then increase our locations because every student would benefit from having better deals and more recommendations that aren’t just franchises”.
What can Ques offer students?
We offer marketing internships to students, regardless of the course you study.
Shoot us a message on our Instagram: @ques.uk if you’re interested, and we’ll be in touch.
As a student who uses Ques, I can definitely agree with all of the above. It makes your life as a student so much easier with having everything all in one place. Do yourself a favour and download Ques on your devices, you won’t regret it!
