Brodies Coffee Review

A New Discovery

As a third year student, I’m a little ashamed to say that I have never actually been to Bricks cafe, nor any of their other establishments… and I can’t believe I waited so long to do so! Bricks has a lovely open atmosphere, with lots of light and welcoming faces, it makes a perfect spot for a quick yap, or an afternoon study session. Even better, it’s a parent safe spot to bring relatives to when they visit.

The menu doesn’t disappoint either. Despite not being able to do a little online stalking to see the menu, I wasn’t disappointed upon my arrival. With a range of freshly baked veggie and sausage rolls, toasted bagels, and pastries alongside signature brownies, flapjacks and other goods (that, I kid you not, were bigger than my phone), one was hardly going to go hungry. Plus, everything on their menu was at a stunning price, just perfect for the student budget.

So as I sat there with a pot of tea, and a good old Welsh cake, it found it incredibly hard to criticise the place. So would I go back? Absolutely! And i’m definitely going to try their mozzarella toastie.

The Friendly Local

Words cannot describe Brodies. This utterly charming little cafe right on the doorstep of the Taly Halls is the perfect spot for so many excursions. They have laptop friendly tables for work, and tables saved for socialising, plus they have a student discount (the biggest reason to go). And what I really love about Brodies is the message: ‘you got this’,

The best place though is the OG hut in Gorsedd Gardens, on my way home from the gym every Friday I let myself have an iced coffee (and sometimes a brownie too).

At the hut you can donate money which goes towards Cardiff homeless. If you’ve been in Cardiff for any length of time you’ll be familiar with our homeless population, and having an independently run cafe make the effort to help this demographic is something that restores my faith in humanity.
