After visiting Stag Coffee two times in the past two weeks, I thought it was only necessary to write a review of the place. An independent caf├®, located on Crwys Road, in the heart of Cathays. With unique d├®cor and a quirky feel, Stag oozes a relaxed and comforting vibe.
The small caf├® possesses a large menu containing all-day breakfast dishes (perfect for brunch-lovers, hangovers or late risers), sandwiches and burgers. There is also a large selection of freshly brewed coffees, teas, milkshakes and soft drinks.

Now, if you like breakfast food/brunch, Stag is definitely worth a visit. For my first visit, I had the ÔÇÿsmashed avoÔÇÖ: what it says on the tin, alongside feta, on seeded bread, with chilli flakes and pumpkin seeds, at a reasonable price of ┬ú4.95. I also had thick-cut bacon on the side (only a ┬ú1 supplement charge), and you could also add smoked salmon or a fried egg for additional charges.
On my second trip to Stag, I chose the ÔÇÿbuttermilk pancakesÔÇÖ, with strawberries, blueberries, bananas, and not to forget, a generous drizzling of syrup. The pancakes were the perfect comfort food, and at ┬ú6.95, not too expensive either.
Both times I have visited Stag, I have had the toffee nut latte, and wow, it is divine (and big!). Stag admit a variety of delicious syrups for their coffees, also including gingerbread, pumpkin spice, vanilla, caramel, hazelnut, or salted caramel, and they are beautifully presented in uniquely patterned tin mugs.

Stag also offers a variety of vegetarian/vegan/gluten-free options, and everything served is deliciously homemade and delightfully fresh. It is also high-quality food that is sensibly priced ÔÇô perfect for students.
One thing I would say, if youÔÇÖre wanting to go to Stag on a Saturday or Sunday morning, make sure you get there at a reasonable time (it opens at 9:30am on Saturdays and 10am on Sundays) as there is always a queue outside before itÔÇÖs even opened. Although it is quite a small caf├®, they have recently opened a new seating area, and there is also space outside at the front, as well as additional seats at the back, so fingers crossed you can find a table!
Quick service, friendly staff, great prices, and most of all, delicious food. What more could you ask for? So what are you waiting for? If you live in Cardiff/Cathays, head down to Stag Coffee and you will not be disappointed!
