Beach BabyÔÇÖs surf-y, summery vibes washed into Clwb Ifor last night. As relative newcomers to the music scene they made no delay in making their presence felt. With a punchy, yet concise set, the band were well received by the small, but warm crowd.
Managed by the team behind Jungle, their debut single ÔÇÿLadybirdÔÇÖ, was released to warm ears last year on Chess Club. ItÔÇÖs catchy guitar pop, somewhere between Sundra Karma and Palma Violets. It captures the best several genres ÔÇô punk and grunge ÔÇô without sounding like a mess. They cite as influences the Cure, Joy Division, the Smiths, Pavement and Nirvana. ÔÇÿLadybird ÔÇÿÔÇô conceived as ÔÇ£an alternative love song tracing the subconscious workings of a relationshipÔÇØ ÔÇô has some of the CureÔÇÖs early moody majesty, only combined with the dynamics of Nirvana and the stoned triumphalism of The Stone Roses.
Their catchy tunes make a strong foundation for a full length EP to go with their growing list of festival appearances lined up for the summer. With Reading & Leeds, The Great Escape and Live at Leeds, itÔÇÖs an exciting time for this band making (baby) waves!
