Pale Waves: ‘Unwanted’ LP Review

Written by Lily Croft

Pale Waves have released their 3rd studio album titled ÔÇÿUnwantedÔÇÖ. An album which is the antithesis of its title as fans were yearning for new music.

After 2 successful albums, Pale Waves are back with their melodies fuelled with anger and angst, as their 13-track album transports you back to the 2000ÔÇÖs from the very first second. They leave you feeling nostalgic and reminiscent of artists such as Avril Lavigne and Paramore with a punk aesthetic. Accompanied by raw and emotional sound, Pale Waves have spent time perfecting the true art of writing an alternative rock bop.

Met with a heavy bassline and angsty vocals, ÔÇÿLiesÔÇÖ opens the album with a Paramore-esque style which will have you dancing along and shouting your feelings away from the get-go. As the album progresses, the tension and emotion increases – with a few slower ballads in between. Tracks such as ÔÇÿThe Hard WayÔÇÖ and ÔÇÿWithout YouÔÇÖ contrast to the gritty atmosphere and vexed attitude of the rest of the album as lead singer, Heather Baron-Gracie, sings about dealing with tragic life experiences and the grieving process she went through at a young age.

While Pale Waves have continued to generally stick to the same genre and style as their previous albums, ÔÇÿUnwantedÔÇÖ is definitely more intense. More emotions are thrown around, more memorable melodies are written, and more riffs are entwined as the album gently seeps into the pop-punk genre – making it perfect to slowly widen their fan base as they continue to fuel the energy of their boisterous crowds.

ÔÇÿUnwantedÔÇÖ is now available on all streaming platforms. So, prepare yourself to see them live whether it be at their November UK tour, at a festival or as a support act, because we are sure that Pale Waves will be inescapable as they become the next big thing.
