Birmingham was once the home of heavy metal, with Judas Priest and Black Sabbath both calling the midlandsÔÇÖ heart their home back in the 80s. But now, bubbling away amongst the River Rea, a new scene is staking claim to the third most populated urban area in the United Kingdom (seriously, Google it).
Dubbed ÔÇÿB-TownÔÇÖ by the musical press, Birmingham is now the home of a scene of shimmering, poppy indie; epitomised by the likes of Peace and Swim Deep. One of the strongest members of this scene are the lesser-lauded Jaws, who Quench previously championed in issue 136. We are so ahead of the curve.
They play our very own Solus this Sunday, in support of Brummie-buddies The Twang, whose chart-bothering and honest take on indie has granted them heavy Radio 1 play, and endorsement from Edith Bowman and Jo Whiley among others.
Sure to be an unmissable celebration of the Birmingham music scene past and present – the last few tickets are available here!
