Review: April Towers, Suddenly Human, Mellt and Uumar at Gwdihw, 3rd September 2015

Last night, well-loved venue Gwdihw teamed up with Xpress Radio to bring you the amazing sounds of April Towers, featuring support from Suddenly Human, Mellt and Uumar.

The optimistic sounds of Uumar kicked things off, doing things a bit differently by playing an acoustic set due to their bassist being “out on a school trip”. This led their guitarist to attempt playing bass lines as well. Despite this, they delivered an energetic and exciting set. It was great to see many songs of the set in Welsh. They were giving it everything they had, and ended up getting lost, which was a pleasure to watch.

Mellt followed up with a set that was just as powerful. It had a raw energy to it that was quite simply captivating, and their set was well-received by the audience. The line-up so far was spot on, and the next band to play certainly did not disappoint.

Suddenly Human played their first Welsh show. Originally from Germany, the group gave an intense set, and showed exactly why they’re gaining international attention.

To finish things off, April Towers took to the stage. They had an extraordinarily complicated technical set-up, but with just two performers on the stage it was incredible how they managed to create such a unique sound. Before the gig, it was difficult to see how they were going to translate their sound to a live setting, but they pulled it off with huge success. Their set was captivating, and it was easy to feel a real connection to the music.

As always, the night ended in style with a DJ set from Xpress’ very own Matt Jenner. Here he is looking very cool with his shades.
