Ron Burgundy. Everyone knows his name, everyone loves him, and everyone misses him. San DiegoÔÇÖs favourite Anchorman is returning to the big screen in one of this yearÔÇÖs most anticipated movies. Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues sees Ron, Brian, Champ and Brick leave the 70s behind them in an attempt to make it big in the modern news industry. But this is Ron Burgundy, so we all know it is going to be a tremendously funny mishap on his part.
Ron has lost his job as lead anchor to his wife, Veronica Corningstone, and the team has been forced to join the first 24-hour news channel in New York, GNN, in order to ÔÇ£reclaim the glory they once knewÔÇØ. On their journey we will find Brick attending his own funeral, the team crashing a vehicle full of bowling balls and scorpions, and RonÔÇÖs inability to stop spluttering ÔÇ£blackÔÇØ when he meets his new boss. It is RonÔÇÖs old-fashioned values that will inevitably get him into the most trouble in the modern news industry; the first film highlighted his inability to accept a woman as his equal, so how will he fare when he discovers his new boss is in fact a ÔÇ£blackÔÇØ woman?
In films like these every audience member has a personal favourite character, in my case it is Brick. Steve Carell does an amazing job at portraying a simple-minded weather reporter who never fails to make me laugh with his one-liners and misconceptions. The highlight of the first film for me was ÔÇ£Brick where did you get a hand grenade? … I donÔÇÖt knowÔÇØ. Anchorman 2 promises to continue presenting Brick in the same light; he attends his own funeral, he believes he has lost his legs when using the green screen (consequently collapsing to the floor and mourning over his lost legs), and his bizarre understanding of a gay reporter being a vampire.
All in all, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues promises to be the must-see comedy film this Christmas. Whether you want to see Ron ÔÇ£sounding like a balloonÔÇØ or BrickÔÇÖs crotch being replaced by the number 93, there is something in this film to make every viewer laugh.
